Jersey is a young wrestler from Nebraska, and what inspired us most about her application wasn't a list of accomplishments. It was the kind of person she is.
Her family described Jersey as a leader both on and off the mat. She's kind, hardworking, and full of grit, approaching every practice and competition with determination and heart. Those are the qualities that help grow not only great wrestlers, but great teammates.
We also loved hearing about the way Jersey gives back to her wrestling community. She helps her brother, a high school All-American wrestler, coach younger athletes during the offseason and is always encouraging girls to give wrestling a try. Whether she wins or loses, she's in their corner, cheering them on and reminding them to believe in themselves.
That's the kind of leadership girls wrestling needs.
