Pyper is 8 years old and wrestles for Camel Kids Wrestling in Gillette, Wyoming. What inspired us most about her application wasn't just her love for wrestling, but the way she helps build the community around her.
Pyper has been wrestling for nearly six years and has experienced firsthand how much girls wrestling has grown. She started wrestling before Wyoming offered girls wrestling opportunities at the junior high and high school levels, competing primarily against boys. Today, she's part of a growing sisterhood of female wrestlers that stretches across clubs and state lines.
Her family shared that one of Pyper's favorite things about wrestling is the friendships she's built along the way. The girls she meets at tournaments have become more than competitors. They've become friends, teammates, and part of an ever-growing wrestling family that supports and encourages one another.
We were especially touched to learn how much Pyper enjoys helping younger wrestlers. She assists with demonstrations at practice, helps teach techniques to younger athletes, and encourages girls who are just beginning their wrestling journey. According to her family, she even has a "mini fan club" of younger wrestlers who look up to her and follow her example.
What makes Pyper special is that she understands leadership isn't just about winning matches. It's about how you respond to challenges, how you support your teammates, and how you help others believe in themselves.
